Comcare is an Australian Government agency that has functions and responsibilities under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act), the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and the Asbestos-related Claims (Management of Commonwealth Liabilities) Act 2005 (ARC Act). Under this legislation Comcare has multiple roles as insurer, regulator and scheme manager.
Comcare is committed to supporting medical providers and the medical community to focus on capacity for employees with workplace injuries and diseases, helping employees to return to work (RTW) and realise the positive health benefits of work.
In the ACT, Comcare has been working collaboratively with the Capital Health Network to provide education and information with this focus and connecting with the medical community through the GP liaison officer.
In July 2015, Comcare introduced a new medical Certificate of Capacity and tools to support RTW case conferencing. For more information please contact the GP Liaison officer at healthbenefitsofwork [at] comcare.gov.au or visit http://www.comcare.gov.au/promoting/health_benefits_of_work_programme.
