Have your say on the future of ACT's public maternity services

Time: 6:00pm to 7:00pm, 10/10/18

Event Detail:

Interested general practitioners and obstetricians are invited to have your say on the new proposed maternity access strategy. The strategy aims to streamline access by having a single point of entry for all public maternity services in the ACT.

ACT Health will be hosting two sessions to discuss the strategy and would value your input into consolidating the strategy and identifying the best ways for general practitioners to engage with the proposed strategy.

Session Detail:

Session one: 7:30am - 8:30am on Tuesday 25 September 2018

Session two: 6:00pm - 7:00pm on Wednesday 10 October 2018

Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available at each session.

Everyone is welcome however seating is limited. Please RSVP by Friday 21 September to Sally Haseler on sally.haseler [at] act.gov.au with your name and contact details.

Nutrition Support Program

Nutrition Support Program

Event Detail:

The Nutrition Support Program is a nationally accredited program and is fully funded by the federal Department of Health under the Chronic Disease Project.

Session Detail:

The Nutrition Support Program is designed to provide skills and knowledge for a range of health professionals and others working within Indigenous Health to provide detailed information and advice in relation to nutrition and dietary management.

On the successful completion of the program, participants should have the ability to organise appropriate resources for dietary education and assist with the provision of basic and scripted dietary and nutrition information for the client.

Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate strategies to monitor a clients response to the information and education and comply with the instructions of the Dietitian and be aware of protocols for client documentation.

Having a good knowledge and understanding of the principles of nutritional requirements and the body systems, students can recognise how human behaviour and cultural factors may influence our diets.

The Foot Health Assessment Program is a nationally accredited program and is fully funded by the federal Department of Health under the Chronic Disease Project.

Session Detail:

The Foot Health Assessment Program is designed to provide skills and knowledge for a range of health professionals and others working within Indigenous Health to provide detailed information and advice in relation to foot health management.

On the successful completion of the program, participants should have the ability to safely perform a basic foot care assessment, determine foot care requirements and use basic equipment and a range of topical medications where the services of a professional podiatrist are not required.

The program is evidence based and the techniques taught are designed to promote the best practice outcomes for patient care.

This program has been designed to provide the student with the opportunity to gain or consolidate knowledge and skills in basic foot care assessment management and referral.

Course in Ear and Hearing Health

Time: 8:45am to 4:30pm, 17/10/18

Event Detail:

The Course in Ear and Hearing Health aims to provide eligible participants specific skills and knowledge to perform ear health examinations and provide basic point of care hearing evaluations.

The course provides knowledge to allow successful students to provide management strategies and understand referral pathways for specialist care in relation to a range of conditions, based on detailed knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the auditory system.

Session Detail:

Vocational outcomes include: enhanced clinical practice, addition of skills to scope of practice, and ear health assessment clinician.

  • assess and determine factors that affect ear and hearing health, assess the client’s physical and pathophysiological auditory status and seek advice where appropriate. The major focus of the unit is on physical auditory assessment
  • provide education, develop management plans, identify and manage hygiene issues regarding ear and hearing health, and provide ongoing management where complex needs regarding ear and hearing health are required
  • perform wax removal procedures where deemed appropriate and safe
  • perform ear health screening assessments on children.
