New After Hours Service for General Practitioners and Patients
After Hours Radiology (ie: X-Ray) and Reporting Service
ACT PHN is funded by the Australian Government to deliver the After Hours Program within the ACT to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, access and availability of after hours services in the ACT.
The After Hours Radiology and Reporting Service will be available for ACT and NSW General Practitioners (who see ACT residents), to refer people whose health condition is non-life threatening but require diagnostic Radiology (i.e. X-ray) services prior to the next in-hours period and who otherwise would need to visit ACT Emergency Departments to access this service.
Following a tender process, Canberra Imaging Group (CIG) has been engaged to provide after hours Radiology (i.e. X-ray) and reporting between the period 15 January 2018 and 14 January 2019 inclusive.
The objectives of this after hours Radiology (i.e. X-ray) service are to:
Improve timely access to Radiology (i.e. X-ray) and Reporting services during the after hours period for ACT residents
Improve access for referring GPs to timely reporting of Radiology (i.e. X-ray) and Reporting services during the after hours period
Reduce non-urgent presentations to ACT Emergency Departments.
Access to services will be available across the following after hours periods: Weekdays 5:30pm to 8:00pm at Calvary Bruce Private Hospital and Saturdays 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Peter Yorke Building Calvary John James Hospital. The service will not be available during Public Holidays.
Both patients and referring GPs can contact the services via a dedicated phone line Ph: (02) 6228 8118 which will be open one hour in advance of after hours services (ie: 4:30pm weekdays and 11:00am Saturdays).
Imaging will include plain X-Ray only. Imaging services other than X-Ray will not be available.
Results for after hours Radiology (i.e. X-Ray) will be accessible to referring GPs and patients electronically via HealthLink or the Medinexus portal within a maximum of a four hour period and on average within two hours from the time the service is provided. Reports will be uploaded to My Health Record in the near future.
GPs can also access the results using a mobile device, for example an iPhone or iPad via the CIG mobile device App. Please Contact Medinexus directly to setup an account Ph: 1300 796959.
To ensure patient safety, both GPs and patients should be contactable after referral to the service. Contact details should be provided on referral.
Patient co-payments for After Hours Radiology (i.e. X-Ray) services will not exceed $90. Patients will be required to pay the co-payment, with ACT X-Ray Services billing the residual payment directly to Medicare Australia.
