Session detail

The speaker at next week’s HIV Clinical Care Meeting will be Mr Tim Bavinton; he will be discussing Sexual Health Education in the ACT: the state of play.

He will discuss:
• The role of schools in sexual health promotion, and where sexual health, sexuality and relationships education fits in the Australian Curriculum
• Similarities and differences between the ACT compared to other States/Territories (school system, curriculum approach), and the effect of any differences on the quality, consistency and content of sexual health education
• The kinds of programs and activities that are available, and who provides sexual health education and sexual health promotion in the ACT

Tim is a youth worker, teacher and community educator, currently working as the executive director of Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT, Canberra’s sexual health charity. Previously, Tim established SAMSSA (Service Assisting Male Survivors of Sexual Assault) with the Canberra Rape Crisis Centre in the ACT. He is also currently navigating the joys and challenges of being a parent to primary school-aged children.

Please note that this meeting is on the third, not the usual fourth Wednesday of the month as ANZAC day falls on the fourth Wednesday in April.
