Capital Health Network (CHN) Chair Professor Gabrielle Cooper was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the general division (OAM) in this year’s Australia Day honours list.

CHN Chief Executive Gaylene Coulton warmly congratulates Professor Cooper on this prestigious award in recognition of her “service to the pharmacy sector, and to tertiary education”.

“It is wonderful to see Gabrielle’s remarkable contribution to both the sector and tertiary education of pharmacy recognised in this way.  Gabrielle established the Discipline of Pharmacy in 2004 at the University of Canberra and is the Professor of Pharmacy in the Faculty of Health,” said Ms Coulton.

Professor Cooper is the Chair of the CHN Board, ACT’s primary health network.  Prior to becoming CHN Chair, Gabrielle served on the Board as a Primary Health Care Director (and previously the ACT Medicare Local Board) since 2011.

“Gabrielle has extensive national and international experience.  We are fortunate to have her valuable leadership and guidance as Chair of the CHN Board aiding us to continue to influence and collaborate to address identified local health needs in the community,” said Ms Coulton.

Professor Cooper was a Pharmaceutical Social of Australia (PSA) National Board Member and ACT Branch President from 2011-2013.  She is a member of the ACT Branch Committee of the PSA.  She is also a member of a range of other professional committees with a focus on optimal medication management and improved communications between consumers and care providers.

Professor Cooper was Deputy Chair and committee member of the Australian Pharmacy Council from 2010-2014, and has been a member of the ACT branch of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia since 1985.

Professor Cooper’s research interests include clinical toxicology, pharmacist and technician education, dementia care and communication between health care settings and providers.

Professor Cooper has worked as a hospital pharmacist from 1985 at a range of hospitals in Australia and the UK.
