Position Description

  • Part-time/Full-time role
  • Fixed Term Contract to 30th June 2027 (possibility of extension)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver person-centred, inclusive, and affirming mental health interventions grounded in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, with a focus on client outcomes.
  • Utilise trauma-informed psychological strategies and psychosocial assessments tailored to the needs of underserviced and at-risk LGBTIQA+ people.
  • Managing a caseload of clients, conducting comprehensive assessments, case conceptualisation, development of structured treatment plans, referral protocols and safety planning.
  • Identifying key issues for Meridian’s communities and understanding the intersectionality of case presentations with a view to wrap-around care.
  • Strictly observing scope of practice and professional boundaries.
  • Maintaining consistent and high-quality confidential records using Meridian systems and procedures.
  • Actively participating in and contributing to professional development activities including group supervision and external clinical supervision.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engaging with a range of health promotion and community development activities to support the health and welfare of the LGBTIQA+ community.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Skills and Attributes

  • Advanced skills in evidence‑based, trauma‑informed and affirming therapeutic practice.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, maintain professional boundaries, and contribute to the success of the team
  • High level digital literacy, including experience with client management systems.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of evidence-based, trauma-informed and affirming treatment modalities relevant to Meridian’s communities.
  • Key presenting and co-occurring issues for client cohort including intersectional factors influencing client presentations
  • Suicide prevention approaches and frameworks including risk assessment and mitigation strategies for identified risk.
  • Understanding of the ACT mental health service system and referral pathways.
  • Mandatory reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Masters of Social Work
  • An Accredited Social Worker, with membership of AASW Experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a social worker within mental health services
  • Experience delivering a range of evidence‑based therapeutic interventions.
  • Experience working with complex, intersectional presentations within LGBTIQA+ and HIV‑affected communities.
