POSITION OVERVIEW
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary mental health and wellbeing team, the Psychologist is
responsible for providing high-quality, inclusive, trauma-informed, gender affirming, and personcentred care. Utilising a variety of evidence-based psychological and therapeutic approaches, the role provides clinical assessments, case conceptualisation and intervention to support clients achieve strengths-based wellbeing goals through strategies, support, advocacy, suicide prevention, safety planning and referral pathways for the communities Meridian serves.
The Psychologist works with clients experiencing complex and intersecting needs, including moderate to severe mental health presentations. Intersectional experiences for clients include living with HIV; exploration and affirmation of gender identity and expression; sexuality; and general emotional wellbeing. The role also supports clients impacted by minority stress, disability, neurodivergence, substance use, ageing, and experiences of domestic and family
violence.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide person-centred, inclusive, gender-affirming mental health care, grounded in a strengths-based and trauma-informed framework, delivering evidence-based therapeutic assessment, strategies and interventions, to support meaningful outcomes for clients.
- Deliver mental health care to clients with diverse, complex, and intersecting needs. Including the competency to respond to elevated or acute suicidality and complex trauma.
- Apply an intersectional and trauma-informed lens to understand presentations, inform clinical decision-making, and support coordinated and holistic care.
- Managing a caseload of clients including conducting comprehensive assessments, case conceptualisation, development of structured treatment plans, referral protocols and safety planning.
- Active commitment to maintaining AHPRA registration and practising within professional scope, ethical standards, organisational policies and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Maintain consistent and accurate clinical records using Meridian systems, in accordance with relevant procedures and legislation.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development including actively identifying gaps in current knowledge and skills relevant to community need.
- Actively participate in additional external and group supervision where relevant to support client, clinician and organisational safety.
- Comply with organisational systems, policies, and procedures relating to risk management and ethical practice, including privacy, confidentiality and incident reporting requirements.
- Work closely with the Wellbeing Team Leader and colleagues to support coordinated and holistic care.
- Develop and maintain effective and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage with a range of mental wellbeing promotion and community development activities to support the health and welfare of the communities Meridian serves
- Actively contribute to a positive, respectful and inclusive workplace culture that promotes collaboration, wellbeing and high-quality service delivery.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology
- AHPRA general registration as a psychologist (no restrictions)
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychological therapy and assessment.
- Demonstrated experience managing a caseload while responding to the unique mental health needs and barriers to care impacting LGBTIQA+ communities and/or priority populations.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering therapeutic, psychological, and psychosocial interventions of varied intensity, using a range of evidence-based therapies and strategies within a trauma-informed framework

Knowledge
- Understanding of communities served by Meridian including people living with and impacted HIV, sex workers, people of diverse sexualities and genders.
- Knowledge and understanding of gender-affirming care needs and pathways, including their relevance across primary health, mental health, legal, and broader care systems within the ACT, and the ability to support clients to navigate these systems.
Essential

- Satisfactory completion of National Police Check
Desirable
- Experience in providing gender affirming medical care support letters
- Experience in delivering specialised therapeutic modalities beyond general CBT, such as EMDR, Schema Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
- Experience with therapeutic group facilitation
- Experience working with neurodivergent individuals and an understanding of neurodiversity-affirming practice.
