The ACT has a shortage of endorsed Opioid Maintenance Treatment (OMT) prescribers in primary care. Primary care providers who prescribe OMT play a vital role in increasing access to treatment, enhancing the wellbeing of drug-dependant patients and reducing the risk of drug related harm.
Capital Health Network (CHN), ACT’s Primary Health Network is offering 5 scholarships to primary care providers with an interest in becoming endorsed OMT prescribers, to attend the RACGP General Practice in Addiction (GPADD) Conference from 28-29 August 2026 in Melbourne. Attending the conference will provide an opportunity to connect with GPs, health professionals, researchers and community advocates across Australia, strengthen clinical capability and deepen understanding of best-practice addiction management in primary care. Participation will also contribute meaningfully to progression towards becoming an endorsed OMT prescriber.
Eligible applicants must commit to undertake training with Canberra Health Services and become an endorsed OMT prescriber in the ACT by the end of 2026.
The grant is a one-off amount of $2,000 (GST exclusive) each and intends to cover, or contribute to, return flights from Canberra to Melbourne, accommodation and registration to the 2-day RACGP GPADD conference. The total grant funding available is $10,000 (GST exclusive).
CHN invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from primary care providers who meet the eligibility criteria:
