Capital Health Network, in collaboration with Canberra Health Services, invites GPs and health professionals working in primary care to a face-to-face event on Young Onset Dementia. This session will focus focus on practical strategies for evaluating cognitive and behavioural symptoms in primary care settings that may indicate young onset dementia (YOD) or rarer neurodegenerative conditions. Their presentation will also outline the complementary roles of neurological and neuropsychological assessment in early detection and differential diagnosis and introduce the newly established Cognitive Disorders Clinic for patients in the ACT region.
Key learning outcomes will include:
- Improved recognition of key symptoms and signs that may indicate an early onset dementia emerging
- Key features that separate patients in the early stages of disease from the so called ‘worried well’
- An overview of quick bedside tests appropriate to the primary care setting that may help quicky screen for suggestive signs

About the presenters:
Dr Phillip Fletcher is a Cognitive Neurologist based at Canberra Hospital. He trained in Oxford and London, UK, and completed a PhD on Fronto-temporal dementia at The Dementia Research Institute at The National Hospital for Neurology. He has a specialist interest in young onset dementias and rare dementias.
Dr Nathan D’Cunha is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Ageing Research and Translation (CARAT) at the University of Canberra. His research focuses on post-diagnostic care and support for people with dementia and their care partners
Ms Zoe Alcorn is a Clinical Neuropsychology Registrar based in the Rehabilitation, Aged, and Community Services division at the University of Canberra Hospital. She has a strong clinical and research interest in the early identification of neurodegenerative conditions in younger adults.

The Practice Incentives Program, delivered through Services Australia, provides financial support for health professionals and general practices to deliver quality care, enhance capacity and improve access and outcomes.
Capital Health Network invites Practice Managers and other primary health care professionals to an insightful evening about understanding the Practice Incentives Program and maximising benefits for patients and practices.
Learning outcomes:
- Describe the Practice Incentives Program (PIP)
- Outline the streams and individual PIP incentives
- Understand the PIP eligibility and reporting requirements
Practice Connect is Capital Health Network’s quarterly educational and networking event designed for Practice Managers, Practice Nurses and other primary health care professionals to upskill, refresh their knowledge and connect. Attendees are encouraged to self-report CPD hours to their education dashboard (Educational Activity: 2 hours). A certificate of attendance will be provided after the event.
