Initial Assessment and Referral Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) Program for Mental Health
The IAR and IAR-DST is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government aiming to support our mental health sector by providing evidence-informed framework and tool to support clinicians and service providers. The IAR creates a shared language and is used in conjunction with clinical judgement and experience to support mental health referrals and recommendations, aiding in appropriate care when a person needs it.
What is the IAR?
- GPs
- Practice Nurses
- Mental Health Nurses
- Mental Health Allied Health Professionals
- Community-based Mental Health Service Staff
- Mental Health Clinicians and Clinic support staff.
Training will cover:
- Introduction to the IAR
- Orientation to the 8 domains
- Orientation to the 5 levels of care and decision support tool (IAR-DST)
- Practical activity using the IAR-DST with a case study (1 hour)
- Discussion on supported decision making and the IAR.
All participants will receive 2 hours CPD to self-report and a certificate of attendance.
GPs and GP registrars are eligible for a once of incentive payment of $300. RACGP members will receive 1.5 hrs EA and 0.5 hrs RP for CPD.
