The Practice Incentives Program eHealth Incentive (ePIP) focuses specifically on encouraging GPs to keep up-to-date with new digital health initiatives and adopt new digital health platforms and technology. The eHealth incentive depends on the size of the practice. In order to be eligible for ePIP, a general practice must be registered in the Practice Incentive Program (PIP) and meet the following five requirements:

  1. Integrating Healthcare Identifiers into Electronic Practice Records
The practice must have three vital numbers stored in their compliant software: the practices Healthcare Provider Identifier (HPI-O), the GPs Healthcare Provider Identifier (HPI-I), and the patients Individual Healthcare Identifiers (IHI).
  2. Secure Messaging Capability
The practice must have and be utilising standards-compliant secure messaging and have a written policy in place to encourage its use.
  3. Data Records and Clinical Coding
The practice must ensure that they are working towards recording the majority of diagnoses for their patients electronically, using vocabulary that can be mapped against nationally recognised classifications/terminology. There must be a policy in place to ensure this is done by all GPs.
  4. Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions
The practice must ensure that the majority of their prescriptions are sent electronically to a Prescription Exchange Service.
  5. My Health Record System
The practice must be connected to My Health Record and be creating and posting shared health summaries and event summaries. To meet the ePIP quarterly payment quota, a minimum of 0.5% of the practice’s patients must have a shared health summary uploaded to their My Health Record.

To prepare your practice for the ePIP, please see the eHealth Incentive Checklist.
