Accredited general practices, community health centres and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) in the ACT regions are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to deliver a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (Medicare UCC) in the ACT.
The Commonwealth Government’s commitment to establish Medicare UCCs across the country aims to improve access to urgent care in a non-hospital setting and reduce the pressure on emergency department (ED) presentations by providing patients with acute, episodic care for urgent conditions that are not immediately life-threatening.
The GP-led Medicare UCC will:
- Be based in existing general practice clinics, community health centres or ACCHS;
- Operate extended business hours, seven days per week and accept walk-in patients;
- Provide bulk-billed services resulting in no out-of-pocket costs to the patient;
- Offer GP-led care, with a multidisciplinary team on-site or readily available;
- Treat conditions that do not require a hospital admission (i.e., fractures, wounds, minor burns, and other illnesses);
- Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the local community; and
- Provide high quality, safe and effective care.
- Be operational by 31st December, 2025
Location
Woden Valley has been selected as the location by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA).
