Overview of the immunisation program
The Understanding Vaccines and the National Immunisation Program is run by SA Health and aims to provide health professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality immunisation services competently and safely.

The course is accredited by HESA (Health Education Services Australia) and awards a Certificate of Completion to applicants who meet all the criteria and successfully complete the program. The certificate is recognised by ACT Health and health care professionals with this certificate will be able to immunise independently of a medical order in the ACT.

Course requirement and components
The course is designed to provide easy access and is delivered online. It requires an internet connection and a browser. SA Health recommends using the most recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge or Internet Explorer 10 and above.

The course must be completed within 20 weeks of the date of enrolment. SA Health recommends up to 70 CPD hours may be claimed.

The course consists of four modules and two exams and there is no clinical assessment required to successfully complete this program.

Clinical support by phone and email about the content of the course is provided by a team of immunisation nurse experts. The phone service is available Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) and emails are responded to by the next business day. Technical support is provided by Digital Media.

SA Health strives to support all students in successfully completing the course. Participants at significant risk of failing their scholarship program due to lack of progress in the 20-week timeframe will have their scholarship transferred to another candidate.
